Individuals make the difference in their CommunitiesYou have no idea what the smallest word, or the tiniest generosity can cause to be set in motion. Anything done from the heart will help lighten the burdens of another. Anything.
You may have read the Malcolm Gladwell book, “The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference.” It's basically a book that presents a new way of understanding why positive change can happen as quickly & unexpectedly as it does. For example, why did crime drop so dramatically in NYC in the mid-90's? It's because ideas, behaviors and messages sometimes act just like outbreaks of infectious disease. But they’re social epidemics. Positive shifts in the quality of life can be initiated by changing a single thought.
We are asking residents to join a neighborhood group – help clean up your city, paint over graffiti, join the city’s mentorship program, help a student with homework and ultimately to graduate, take garbage from empty fields to the dump, help a family in need with a hot meal, yard work or housework, or work at a food bank.
My fellow residents …we can take destiny in our own hands and change the cities we live in. We don’t have to rely on city officials… they shouldn’t be responsible for everything. It really is about mending the world, within our reach. Because together, residents really do make a big difference.
